Celadrin Extinguishes Inflammation Print email this page

Lorna Vanderhaeghe is author of Get a Grip on Arthritis and Other Inflammatory Disorders, a discussion of inflammation and suggestions for natural relief, available now from The Vitamin Trader; order item code BO0230.

Arthritis, cancer, heart attacks, allergies, bowel disease, Alzheimer's, and dozens of other conditions all have one thing in common, inflammation. Inflammation is characterized by pain, heat, redness and swelling; it is the body's first defense against infection and injury. But when the flames of inflammation run out of control, deadly consequences arise. Celadrin, a blend of special fatty acids, is one of the most effective, natural anti-inflammatories. Both humans and animals have shown remarkable benefits of reduced pain and swelling, increased movement and reduction of inflammatory factors when using Celadrin.

Celadrin in Supplement Form

Results of a double-blind, multi-center, placebo-controlled trial (the most scientifically validated type) published in the prestigious Journal of Rheumatology found that Celadrin, when taken orally, improved joint and mobility problems. Participants had more flexibility, less aches and pain and were able to walk longer distances than the placebo group.

Anti-Inflammatory Cream

Research performed at the University of Connecticut involving 42 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee received either Celadrin applied topically or a placebo. The group receiving Celadrin had outstanding results with reduced pain and stiffness, improved balance and strength and better mobility. What was most exciting was that within 30 minutes of applying Celadrin, patients experienced a dramatic improvement. Results of this study were published in The Journal of Rheumatology . Another study confirmed earlier research with improvement in elbow, wrist and knee mobility and significant reduction in pain. Persons using both the oral and cream form of Celadrin have found much faster improvement in pain, swelling and mobility than using just the cream alone.

Celadrin & Psoriasis

Another double-blind, placebo-controlled study using Celadrin cream for the treatment of psoriasis was performed over a 14-day period. Patients were asked to apply the cream to the affected area twice a day. Each patient experienced improvement. This small pilot study found that those persons using Celadrin cream experienced measurable improvement in their psoriatic condition. Psoriasis is a difficult inflammatory skin condition to treat. We can use this data to help those with eczema and other skin conditions halt inflammation and heal the skin.

Celadrin for Wrinkles & More

Reports from those using Celadrin have sparked interest in another area of skin healing. A study is underway looking at Celadrin's effect in reducing wrinkles in the skin. It makes sense that this cream would have a positive effect on wrinkles due to its anti-inflammatory action. By calming the skin and halting inflammation, we can reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Celadrin is also currently being researched for the treatment of gingivitis, another common inflammatory disorder.

How Celadrin Works

Celadrin works similarly to, but much more dramatically than the essential fatty acids, EPA and DHA from fish oils. The esterified (meaning it is stable and does not react with oxygen) fatty acids present in Celadrin have pronounced anti-inflammatory effects, such as the inhibition of the endothelial cells (thin cells that line the inside of some body cavities) and decreasing the pro-inflammatory effects of other fatty acids. The special fatty acids found in Celadrin have also been shown to control immune factors responsible for inflammation. This alone could explain some effects of Celadrin, such as reduction of pain in joints affected by osteoarthritis. And certainly, these functions are very important in preventing further tissue and joint damage while promoting healing.   Additionally, the molecules found in Celadrin may also play a role in lubrication of an affected joint. This action combined with anti-inflammatory effects, explain some of the significant improvements in mobility and function. Such combined effects would appear to be occurring through the application of Celadrin cream in psoriasis. Also, these special fatty acids have been shown to reduce skin inflammation, while also providing a sustained emollient effect at the site of psoriasis. It also works by inhibiting arachidonic acid, one of the main promoters of the inflammatory cascade of immune factors by inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase, another mediator of inflammation. It may also alter cellular membranes protecting them from the action of inflammatory cytokines or by reducing the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and C-reactive protein (CRP).

Low CRP Levels

Derek, a now 62-year-old Olympic athlete, who had competed in the Triple Jump at the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games, continued to maintain his fitness over the years despite his very sore knees. He had tried many different joint healing supplements from MSM, glucosamine to chondroitin with little success. In 1999 he started using Celadrin pills and topical cream and within a few weeks his joint pain was eliminated. Later he suffered a shoulder injury where the doctor recommended surgery. He decided to avoid the operation and rely on Celadrin. Two months after the injury he was lifting weights and sprinting again. Even more exciting were the results from his annual physical check ups. In 1999 before starting Celadrin his bad cholesterol LDL was 177 mg/dL, in the high risk zone and recently in 2004 it was 122 mg/dL, which is desirable; his good cholesterol HDL was 54 mg/dL, which was adequate and now it is 74 mg/dL, both excellent improvements. Back in 1999 doctors did not routinely perform a CRP level but if you look at Derek's CRP (C-reactive protein) level today of 0.13 mg/dL this is outstanding for a 60-year-old who exercises daily. Those who train daily have higher CRP levels to begin with, so his CRP level is amazing. We learned earlier that elevated CRP is a predictor of heart attack, stroke and other inflammatory disorders; by reducing CRP using Celadrin, our risks can be reduced.

Celadrin and Glucosamine

Glucosamine has been clinically studied and shown to increase range of motion and relieve pain at the same rate as ibuprofen. Glucosamine assists in rebuilding cartilage and the overall structure of the joint. The wear on the joint area can be attributed to inflammation as well as insufficient lubrication and cell membrane fluidity. Celadrin provides continuous lubrication and allows the cell membrane to repel inflammatory messengers from the immune system. Celadrin stops the cascade of inflammation and the assaults on the membrane, which cause it to stiffen. Celadrin empowers glucosamine to perform faster and more efficiently in building joint cartilage. The dual action of Celadrin and glucosamine will provide rapid joint cushioning, quickly alleviate inflammation, build cartilage and restore the entire joint area. It is exciting when extensive double-blind, placebo controlled research is performed to confirm the effectiveness of a natural product. With the knowledge that inflammation can shorten our lifespan by promoting many degenerative diseases it is essential that we use natural anti-inflammatories to reduce our risk.
